\u00a0<\/strong>The Scientific Affairs Unit at the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences for Girls, University of Baghdad, held a scientific symposium entitled (Combating Terrorism and Reducing Violent Extremism), which was presented by the two teachers in the Individual Games Branch, Lect. Dr. Hind Salem and Asst. Lect. Hind Walid. The symposium aimed to clarify the meaning of terrorism and extremism, and make society more attentive to the causes, harms, and consequences of terrorism on the individual and society.<\/span><\/h4>\n

The two teachers also explained the concept of terrorism as a term that refers to the use of violence or the threat thereof to achieve political, religious, ideological or social goals, targeting individuals or communities with the aim of spreading fear and terror, noting its harms represented by the loss of human lives without fault, and the spread of chaos in the country for the purpose of division and sectarianism, abuse, cruelty, and vulgarity, referring to its forms that include physical, moral or intellectual terrorism.<\/span><\/h4>\n

They add that among its causes are educational and cultural reasons such as ignorance and illiteracy, economic reasons such as poverty and unemployment, psychological reasons such as racial discrimination and authoritarian violence, political reasons such as lack of clarity in the political approach, dependency such as being influenced by the policies of other countries, and the effects of colonialism, as colonialism and occupation have a role in spreading terrorism.<\/span><\/h4>\n

This scientific event is consistent with the fourth goal of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which relates to ensuring the provision of high-quality education and equal learning opportunities for all.<\/span><\/h4>\n
