The Rehabilitation, Employment, and Follow-Up Unit at the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences for Women, University of Baghdad, organized a rehabilitative workshop titled “Detergents and Disinfectants: Usage and Safety Guidelines.” The workshop was presented by Ms. Inaam Ghaleb Al-Azzawi, a lecturer from the Department of Theoretical Sciences.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ms. Inaam began by explaining the concept of detergents and disinfectants, defining them as products used to remove dirt and germs from surfaces and objects. She clarified the difference between the components of detergents and disinfectants, stating that detergents contain chemicals that help break down and remove dirt, while disinfectants contain substances that kill germs and bacteria.<\/span><\/p>\n

She categorized the types and uses of these products into kitchen and bathroom cleaners, floor and glass cleaners, and hand and surface disinfectants, which come in various forms such as liquids, powders, wipes, and sprays.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ms. Inaam also highlighted the potential health and environmental impacts of improper use, noting that some chemicals in these products can cause allergies or pollute air and water. Therefore, it is essential to choose products with certification labels and adhere to environmental and health standards.<\/span><\/p>\n

The workshop concluded with several key recommendations, including training on reading labels carefully, educating participants on how to read product labels to understand their contents and usage instructions, ensuring proper ventilation during cleaning, emphasizing the importance of good ventilation in enclosed spaces when using detergents and disinfectants to minimize exposure to chemicals, encouraging eco-friendly practices, urging the selection of products with sustainable and recyclable packaging, and safe disposal of chemical waste, teaching participants safe methods for disposing of empty containers and product residues to avoid environmental contamination.<\/span><\/p>\n

This workshop aligns with one of the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal 4: Quality Education.<\/span><\/p>\n
