The Scientific Affairs Unit at the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences for Girls, University of Baghdad, held a scientific symposium entitled (Traditional Games, Popular Sports and Preserving the Sports Heritage), the member of the Department of Theoretical Sciences, Assist. Prof. Dr. Zainab Ali Abdul Amir presented it.<\/span><\/h4>\n

Dr. Zainab explained the importance of traditional games and popular sports as an integral part of the cultural heritage of societies. They reflect the identity of peoples and express their history, customs and traditions. Traditional sports are simple traditional artistic forms that are embodied kinetically or mentally or in both ways in a voluntary manner without compulsion.<\/span><\/h4>\n

Sports games were divided into two main categories: sports games organized through institutions that are under the authority of a known official institution such as federations and Olympic committees and are governed by precise and recognized regulations and laws, and traditional and popular sports games that are linked to ancient customs are governed by fluctuating rules and do not depend on official bodies.<\/span><\/h4>\n

She added that one of the most important features of traditional games and popular sports is that they do not require special equipment, complex sports tools, or special playgrounds. They have a pleasant character that attracts players to what they aim to display: skill, strength, and quick wit. They are low-cost, and some do not cost anything, which is an important economic fact.<\/span><\/h4>\n

Their types were also classified into falconry, whistle hunting, hunting with dogs, archery and rifle shooting, camel racing, equestrianism, ball and scepter, wrestling, tug of war and backgammon.<\/span><\/h4>\n

This symposium achieves one of the sustainable development goals represented by the fourth goal, quality education.<\/span><\/h4>\n
