The Department of Postgraduate Studies at the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences for Girls, University of Baghdad, under the patronage of its Dean, Prof. Dr. Fatima Abd Maleh, and the supervision of its official Lect. Dr. Hoda Shamel held a scientific seminar for postgraduate students entitled (Drugs and their Legal Adaptation), presented by the official of the Legal Department, Asst. Lect. Nour Ali Kazim.<\/span><\/h4>\n

Ms. Nour explained the concept of drugs from a legal perspective, which is a group of substances that cause addiction and poison the nervous system, as it is prohibited to trade, cultivate or manufacture them except for purposes specified by law and is only used by those licensed to do so, classifying their types into natural, manufactured and synthetic chemicals, indicating that they are classified according to their effect into three basic types, which are intoxicants, euphoric drugs, and hallucinogens, in addition to reviewing their harms to the individual, family, and society.<\/span><\/h4>\n

It also touched on the law regulating drugs and psychotropic substances in Iraq No. 50 of 2017, as amended, which aims to clarify the difference between use, possession, and trade, where the user is punished intentionally and personally for not less than 6 months and not more than 2 years and a fine of not less than 3 million and not more than 5 million), while the penalty for smugglers is death or life imprisonment.<\/span><\/h4>\n

The symposium concluded with a set of recommendations, the most important of which are enhancing awareness of the dangers of drugs through the media and schools, establishing rehabilitation and support centers for users who wish to receive treatment, tightening border controls to prevent drug smuggling, and activating penalties on promoters and dealers to ensure deterrence.<\/span><\/h4>\n

This symposium achieves one of the goals of sustainable development, which is represented by the fourth goal of good education.<\/span><\/h4>\n
