As part of its ongoing commitment to promoting the role of sports in social development, the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences for Women at the University of Baghdad hosted a workshop under the slogan: (With Sportsmanship, We Build Peace and Shape the Future)<\/span><\/h4>\n

The Scientific Affairs Unit organized this event under the patronage of the Dean, Prof. Dr. Fatima Abd Malih, supervised by Assistant Lecturer Diana Ghanem. It was organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Office of the Prime Minister, represented by Ms. Aya Ali Al-Saadi, a member of the Community Dialogue Committee.<\/span><\/h4>\n

Held in conjunction with the National Day of Sport for Development and Peace, the workshop explored sport’s transformative power as a tool for achieving peace, development, and social cohesion.<\/span><\/h4>\n

In her keynote presentation, Ms. Al-Saadi stressed that sport is more than just competition or recreation \u2014 it is an effective vehicle for advancing sustainable development goals and building inclusive, peaceful communities.<\/span><\/h4>\n

She explained that sport contributes significantly to physical and mental health, enhances educational discipline, reinforces social fabric, and promotes economic empowerment. Furthermore, she emphasized the vital role of sports in empowering women by challenging traditional gender roles, boosting self-confidence, fostering leadership skills among young women, and raising community awareness about the importance of women\u2019s participation in sports.<\/span><\/h4>\n

The workshop also illuminated sport\u2019s ability to reduce social tensions, promote reconciliation, and foster mutual respect and cooperation among individuals and communities. Ms. Al-Saadi supported her talk with local and international case studies demonstrating the power of sport to unite people across divides, primarily through initiatives aimed at marginalized and underserved populations.<\/span><\/h4>\n

After the event, Prof. Dr. Suhad Haseeb, Assistant Dean for Scientific and Student Affairs, presented Ms. Al-Saadi with a Certificate of Appreciation to recognize her outstanding efforts in leading this impactful and timely workshop.<\/span><\/h4>\n

This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) \u2014 particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), reinforcing the college\u2019s commitment to education, inclusion, and community partnership through sport.<\/span><\/h4>\n
