The College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences for Women at the University of Baghdad witnessed the examination of a PhD dissertation entitled (The Effect of Posner\u2019s Model on Psychological and Cognitive Engagement and the Performance of Selected Complex Offensive Skills in Handball among Female Students), presented by (Nahida Saleh Mahdi).<\/span><\/h4>\n

The examination committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Widad Kazem Majid (University of Baghdad), with the membership of Prof. Dr. Najla Abbas Nassif, Prof. Dr. Nada Abdul Salam Sabri, Prof. Dr. Noor Hatem Ridha, and Prof. Dr. Khalid Shakir Hussein (University of Kufa \u2013 External Member), while Prof. Dr. Nihad Mohammed Alwan supervised the dissertation.<\/span><\/h4>\n

The research aimed to develop a scale for psychological and cognitive engagement among fifth-grade secondary school students and to assess their level of engagement, to design instructional units based on Posner\u2019s model for learning some complex offensive handball skills, to identify the effect of these units on psychological and cognitive engagement and skill acquisition, and to determine the differences between the control and experimental groups in psychological and cognitive engagement.<\/span><\/h4>\n

The researcher concluded that the instructional units designed according to Posner\u2019s model had an effective role in developing psychological and cognitive engagement and improving the performance of complex offensive handball skills among fifth-grade students. The study confirmed the positive impact of Posner\u2019s model on conceptual change, as well as its contribution to raising students\u2019 levels of psychological and cognitive engagement. The model provided the experimental group with opportunities to link their prior knowledge and experiences with new information, enabling them to acquire new knowledge and thus achieve better psychological and cognitive engagement compared to the control group.<\/span><\/h4>\n

The researcher also recommended adopting Posner\u2019s model in teaching sports skills, particularly in handball, due to its positive effect on performance; training teachers and coaches in applying Posner\u2019s model in teaching sports skills; and using supportive technological tools, such as educational videos, to enhance the learning stages within the model, which contributes to improving understanding and the practical application of skills. The study further emphasized the importance for physical education teachers to incorporate elements of cooperation, dialogue, and competition during instructional units in schools, encouraging students to practice teamwork and giving them opportunities to express their ideas.<\/span><\/h4>\n

This research contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4: Quality Education.<\/span><\/h4>\n
