As part of the Iraqi Anti-Drug Awareness Week, the Scientific Affairs Unit at the College of Physical Education and Sport Sciences for Women, University of Baghdad, in cooperation with the Guidance and Follow-up Units, organized an educational scientific seminar titled (The Impact of Drugs on the Individual and Society), delivered by Lecturer Rasha Waleed. The seminar came as part of ongoing efforts to enhance community awareness of the dangers of drug abuse.<\/span><\/h4>\n

The seminar addressed the physical and psychological harms faced by drug users, explaining that narcotic substances cause severe disorders in the nervous system and increase the likelihood of developing mental and behavioral illnesses. It also discussed the negative impact of drug abuse on academic and professional performance, as well as its role in rising rates of violence and delinquency among youth.<\/span><\/h4>\n

The session further explored the social and economic repercussions of drug proliferation, including family breakdown, increased crime rates, and the growing financial burden on healthcare and treatment programs. The lecturer emphasized that prevention begins with strengthening the role of families and schools in awareness and early intervention.<\/span><\/h4>\n

At the conclusion of the seminar, she stressed the importance of collective community efforts to combat this phenomenon, urging young people to avoid risky behaviors and to take advantage of available treatment and psychological support services.<\/span><\/h4>\n

This seminar contributes to achieving one of the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-Being).<\/span><\/h4>\n
