The Dean of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences for Girls, University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Fatima Abed Malih, along with the Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs, Prof. Dr. Aseel Jalil Qatea, and the Head of the Department of Theoretical Sciences, Asst. Prof. Dr. Iman Sabih Hussein received a delegation from the French Embassy in Iraq, including Ms. Bernadette Chau, the Attaché for Scientific and Academic Cooperation.
The purpose of the visit was to explore opportunities for cooperation and strengthen the relations between the two countries in various fields, particularly in the areas of collaborative scientific research, international publishing, practical training, and comprehensive development. This includes the potential for leveraging patents originating from Iraq and transforming conceptual ideas into tangible innovations. The implementation of this initiative indeed requires access to laboratories and companies for manufacturing and marketing. Both sides also discussed the possibility of hosting foreign examiners from French universities to conduct assessments or discussions with our students, either in English or Arabic. Discussions also revolved around the possibility of their participation as editorial members and reviewers in the college’s journal. Additionally, considering the potential of having their research published in our journal free of charge. We also discussed the possibility of sending our top-performing students, outstanding athletes with local championships, and faculty members for training and development programs in France.
Both parties also agreed to organize a Women’s Health and Fitness Day, similar to other international events previously conducted in collaboration with the Indian Embassy, such as the Fitness Day and Yoga Day.
The objectives of our educational institution were sought to be aligned by the embassy representative through the presentation of proposals. One of these proposals involves identifying three French universities to establish agreements that promote research, innovation, and public health, as they are responsible for the overall preparation of athletes.
The Dean of the College provided the French Embassy delegation with an overview of the college’s historical significance and its importance to the community. At the conclusion of the visit, both parties expressed their delight and satisfaction with the prospect of cooperation. They particularly emphasized the college’s possession of numerous initiatives that require implementation with the support of institutions that uphold moral, scientific, and academic values. The goal is to leverage experiences, knowledge, and recent technological developments in the field of artificial intelligence. The focus is on working towards achieving the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals, emphasizing quality education, health, partnerships, and equality.
Dr. Fatima Abed Malih also presented Ms. Bernadette Chau with a copy of the Contemporary Sports Journal, published by the college, with the aim of enhancing the scientific landscape, particularly in the field of women’s sports.
