The Scientific Affairs, Psychological Counseling, and Educational Guidance Units at the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences for Girls, University of Baghdad, hosted a delegation from the Community Police/Women’s Division/Department of Relations and Information of the Iraqi Ministry of Interior, Lieutenant Colonel Basma al-Zaidi, Chief of corporal, Athraa Zuhair, and Sukina Ali, to hold an awareness lecture for undergraduate students entitled ( Harassment and its negative effects on society).
The community police delegation explained the concept of the phenomenon of harassment, which is a person being subjected to the use of force, threats, or constant pressure by another person without his consent. This usually involves unwanted or inappropriate behavior such as touching, staring, or disrespectful speech, as it can Harassment has effects on the victim’s mental and physical health, as she may feel disturbed, weak, humiliated, fearful, depressed, ashamed, embarrassed, curious, confused, and afraid of others. These effects always appear continuously and may last for long periods of time. Moreover, harassment affects the entire society through… undermining trust, security, respect, and social peace, as well as making the victim feel that she is a helpless victim, which can lead to her withdrawing from society, becoming isolated, or seeking revenge. Therefore, harassment represents a serious problem that requires community awareness and understanding, as well as taking clear and effective measures to confront and address it.
This lecture achieves one of the sustainable development goals, represented by the fourth goal: quality education, and the seventeenth goal: establishing partnerships to achieve the goals.
