Brief Overview of Graduate Studies

Graduate studies at the College of Physical Education and Sport Sciences for Women at the University of Baghdad began in the academic year 1995-1996, with the admission of 7 master’s students. This initiative aimed to provide an opportunity for applicants to obtain higher degrees and to develop graduate studies both qualitatively and quantitatively. This development was supported by the availability of a qualified teaching staff with academic titles, the establishment of specialized laboratories (e.g., computer labs), and the use of modern teaching methods in lectures.

The doctoral program was introduced in (2001-2002).

  2. Prof. Dr. Aida Ali Hussein from 2005 to 2011

  3. Prof. Dr. Sahira Razaq Kazem from 2011 to 2013

  4. Prof. Dr. Widad Kazem Majid from 2013 to 2016

  5. Prof. Dr. Bushra Kazem Abdul Redha from 2016 to 2021

  6. Prof. Dr. Suhad Hasib Abdul Hamid from 2021 to present

Department Goals

  • Provide a conducive educational environment for graduate studies and scientific research in line with modern scientific developments.

  • Encourage college graduates to enroll in graduate studies to continue their education and learning after graduation.

  • Develop and update graduate programs, regulations, and information technology systems to enhance the college’s infrastructure.

  • Establish distinguished research programs and projects in partnership with exceptional centers within and outside the university.

  • Prepare generations of outstanding graduate researchers capable of keeping pace with scientific and technological advancements in the sports field and qualified to lead community development efforts.

  • Conduct applied research relevant to scientific fields to connect the educational process with community needs and develop scientific solutions to serve civil society.

Department Mission To prepare qualified scientific leaders in the field of physical education and sports who meet the requirements and needs of the labor market, capable of competing locally, regionally, and globally, while keeping up with scientific and technological developments, and activating scientific research to serve the community in areas such as (sports education and training, rehabilitation of sports injuries, sports management).
