A master’s thesis entitled (Bulgarian Designed Bag Exercises and their Effect on some Physical and Functional Abilities and the Accuracy of Performing the Skills of Serving and Crushing in Volleyball for Youth) was discussed at the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences for Girls, University of Baghdad, by the researcher (Zainab Abdul Rahman Abdul Karim).

The discussion committee consisted of Prof. Dr. Jumaa Muhammad Awad from Anbar University as Chairman, Prof. Dr. Suhad Qasim Saeed as Supervisor, Prof. Dr. Najla Abbas Naseef as Member, and Prof. Dr. Nada Abdul Salam Sabry as Member.

The study aimed to prepare the Bulgarian bag and a device designed for it, prepare exercises for the Bulgarian bag for volleyball players, prepare exercises for the device designed for the Bulgarian bag, identify the effect of Bulgarian bag exercises on the physical and functional abilities of volleyball players, and identify the effect of the Bulgarian bag on volleyball players’ serving and smashing skills.

The study concluded that exercises using the Bulgarian bag and the device designed for the Bulgarian bag had a positive effect on developing the physical abilities of explosive power and strength characterised by speed, flexibility, and functional abilities of the phosphagen system and the lactic acid system in the experimental group, and they excelled in their development of these abilities over the control group. The use of the Bulgarian bag and the device designed for the Bulgarian bag showed effectiveness in developing the accuracy of the performance of the skills of serving and smashing.

The study also recommended the necessity of using the Bulgarian bag and the device designed for the Bulgarian bag and applying its exercises to improve the physical and functional abilities and the accuracy of performing the skills of serving and smashing in volleyball for youth, benefiting from modern training methods that rely on devices to break the pattern of traditional training and break the usual movement pattern of players to develop the physical and functional abilities specific to the game of volleyball, conducting research targeting physical and functional abilities and other technical skills in volleyball and various sports. This discussion achieves one of the goals of sustainable development, represented by the fourth goal of quality education.
