The Continuing Education Unit at the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences for Girls, University of Baghdad, held an arbitration course entitled (The latest developments in basketball law), in which the members from the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, Al-Mustansiriya University, Prof. Dr. Ali Samoum Al-Fartousi, and the member in the Team Games Department, Asst. Lect. Maryam Luwa’a and the coach Marwa Saadi presented it; it lasted two days (22-23/10/2024) in the Abdul Wahab Hall in the college.

On the first day of the course, they dealt with the theoretical aspect that focused on reviewing the latest amendments and developments in the basketball law and the concept of the basketball refereeing profession, which is one of the professions that require special skills and abilities, as the referee bears the responsibility of applying the rules of the game and making quick and accurate decisions under great pressure. The techniques used by referees in performing their duties are numerous, and these techniques are constantly evolving with the development of the game itself and the development of assistive technological techniques; in addition to the number of referees on the field and their duties, the scorer and his assistant, and its signals represented by violations, fouls, and other hand signals, the thumb up with the fist…etc., while the second day dealt with the practical aspect and how to apply the new basketball laws on the field. This course achieves one of the sustainable development goals represented by the fourth goal, quality education, and the seventeenth goal, forming partnerships to achieve the goals.
