The Scientific Affairs Unit at the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences for Girls, University of Baghdad, under the patronage of its Dean, Prof. Dr. Fatima Abd Maleh, hosted the Director of the Swedish Academy of Sports Sciences/Sweden, Dr. Abdul Azim Al-Awsi to hold a scientific workshop entitled (The importance of using heart rate variability (HRV) technology in enhancing the physical and mental performance of sports teams).
Dr Al-Awsi explained the importance of (HRV) technology and its relationship to athletic achievement, psychological and physical health, and how to improve heart rate and understand its value for each individual, explaining the concept of HRV technology in terms of heart rate variation as an indicator of the balance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, which helps to evaluate the general health of the individual, pointing to its importance and strategy in developing the HRV rate through breathing exercises, regular physical activity, sleep, and balanced nutrition, as they have a direct impact on improving the body’s balance and ability to recover, noting the devices used such as smartwatches and sensors, as well as Clarifying its accuracy and suitability for daily use, which allows monitoring physical and psychological performance on a regular and available basis.
The workshop concluded with a set of recommendations, the most important of which is spreading awareness of the importance of HRV as a basic measuring tool for improving health and developing athletic performance, promoting the culture of measuring HRV periodically to help detect any signs of stress or fatigue before they turn into health problems, and encouraging individuals to use available technologies such as wearable devices to monitor their daily health and psychological status.
