The Scientific Affairs Unit at the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences for Girls, University of Baghdad, held, under the slogan (National Unity, Combating Violent Extremism and Building Peace), a scientific symposium entitled (Developing Scientific Research Skills and Academic Publishing in Order to Contribute to the Development and Advancement of the Capabilities of Teaching Staff and Postgraduate Students in the Academic Publishing), presented by the two members in the Individual Games Department, Prof. Dr. Sahra Razzaq and Prof. Dr. Intisar Kazim and the Head of the Theoretical Sciences Department, Assist. Prof. Dr. Iman Sabaih.

The symposium’s axes focused on clarifying the concept of scientific research, how to choose a research topic and formulate the research problem, scientific research methodology and tools for collecting and analyzing data, the difference between traditional scientific research and peer-reviewed academic publishing, standards of scientific research ethics including scientific integrity, the mechanism of academic publishing and how to write scientific research according to the requirements of Academic publishing, steps, and procedures for submitting research and scientific peer-reviewed.

The symposium concluded with a set of recommendations, the most important of which are adhering to ethical standards and avoiding scientific plagiarism, emphasizing the choice of an innovative topic of academic and practical importance, choosing the appropriate scientific journal for publication and classification in the global Scopus containers, and emphasizing data analysis by investing in artificial intelligence developments.

This symposium achieves one of the sustainable development goals represented by the fourth goal, quality education.
