Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Fatima Abd Malih, Dean of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences for Girls at the University of Baghdad, the Scientific Affairs Unit organized a workshop titled (Mechanism for Evaluating Scientific Research in Local Journals). The workshop was specifically designed for postgraduate students and faculty members. It was conducted by a specialized team led by Prof. Dr. Abeer Dakhel Al-Salmi, Editor-in-Chief of the college’s journal, alongside academic members Prof. Dr. Huda Shehab, Prof. Dr. Luma Samir, and Assist. Lect. Diana Ghanem, Head of the Scientific Affairs Unit.
The workshop covered eight key topics that serve as fundamental principles for publishing and evaluating scientific research. These topics included:

Preliminary review procedures conducted by the Editor-in-Chief

Role of reviewers in the evaluation process
During the session, Dr. Abeer Dakhel Al-Salmi emphasized the growing importance of publishing scientific research in the University of Baghdad’s database, particularly for local studies, while ensuring compliance with the publication standards of major global indexing platforms.
The workshop concluded with a set of recommendations, the most notable being:

Providing a practical guide for researchers on submitting their work in accordance with ethical and methodological research standards. It was suggested that this guide be presented in an interactive visual format using PowerPoint with practical case studies.

Encouraging participation in scientific journals as reviewers to enhance expertise in research evaluation.

Ensuring that research is assessed based on precise scientific standards that align with the scope, requirements, and policies of the respective journal.
