The Continuing Education Unit at the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences for Girls/ University of Baghdad held a workshop titled (Qualities of a Successful Sports Commentator). The workshop was presented by the Head of the Media Division, Lect. Ibtihaal Jassim Rasheed, with the participation of two lecturers from the Media and Government Communication Department at the University Presidency, Asst. Lect. Shahad Haider Aboud and Asst. Lect. The workshop addressed the concept of sports commentary as a conscious study of all the influential factors surrounding a match. This includes analysing the roles of various contributors involved in organising and producing the event, such as administrators, the audience, the pitch conditions, referees, and media outlets. The lecturers focused on the key characteristics of a successful sports commentator, most notably: a strong and clear voice, technical knowledge and sports specialisation, the ability to analyse events in real-time and think quickly, storytelling skills during live coverage, emotional intelligence and understanding audience needs, adaptability to various sports, mastery of communication and language skills, and the effective use of technology and digital media.

The workshop concluded with essential recommendations, including the need for commentators to remain neutral in their delivery, stay up to date with technological and digital advancements in mass media, present ideas in a manner suitable for different intellectual levels and age groups, choose appropriate language depending on the context, and acquire the technical and linguistic skills necessary for success in this field.

This workshop aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4, which focuses on quality education, and Goal 17, which emphasises strengthening partnerships to achieve these goals.
