Dr. Bedaa Tariq Abdelwahed hosted the director of the International Accreditation Department, Supervision and Evaluation Agency at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Dr. Ali Abdul Karim Al-Saffar to hold a workshop entitled (Institutional and programmatic accreditation and its importance in Iraqi universities).
Al-Saffar explained the difference between institutional accreditation and specialized program accreditation. The first is a general accreditation that focuses on evaluating the performance of the educational institution in a comprehensive manner, to evaluate the efficiency of the institution as a single unit. Whereas specialized program accreditation is a special accreditation that focuses on paying attention to the specialized academic programs offered by the institution individually. It is necessary for professional specializations. General accreditation is not sufficient for them, but rather they are required to obtain special accreditation from the organization related to the profession.
He pointed to the goals of institutional accreditation, which seek to balance the quality of the educational institution and serving and protecting the interests of society by ensuring that education is heading in the right direction and is achieving its goals effectively, that the institution is working effectively to achieve its goals, and sending messages of reassurance to society, governments, and funders that educational institutions are doing well in its role, for which it was established, with the best possible performance, it is developing performance and quality systems in the university’s academic and administrative departments to ensure continued institutional accreditation.
Dr. Al-Saffar noted the establishment of institutional and programmatic accreditation standards in the government program according to a four-year timetable starting from the stage of spreading the culture of programmatic accreditation to preparing workshops, seminars and visits through quality improvement councils for all specialties.
This workshop achieves the sustainable development goals represented by the fourth goal: quality education, and the seventeenth goal: establishing partnerships to achieve the goals.
