The College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences for Girls at the University of Baghdad, under the patronage of the University’s President, Prof. Dr. Bahaa Ibrahim Ansaf, and under the supervision of its Dean, Prof. Dr. Fatima Abdel Maleh, organized its second international scientific conference, entitled (Sports for Health and Sustainable Development), in cooperation with the National University of Al-Mustaqbal and Zain Telecommunications Company. For the period (2/13-15/2024), in the presence of the Prime Minister’s Advisor for Social Protection Affairs, Dr. Sanaa Al-Moussawi, and all deans of the corresponding colleges in Iraq, in addition to a number of academic figures from universities and other institutions. The number of participating researches reached (73), of which (21) ) Scopus global research and (52) local research, focusing on seven axes: training and trains physiology, testing and measurement, sports management, sports injury rehabilitation, teaching methods and sports psychology, learning and sports biomechanics, health and sustainable development.
The opening of the conference included a number of paragraphs, including the playing of the national anthem, followed by the playing of the University of Baghdad anthem, and then reciting verses from the Holy Quran and standing to read Surat Al-Fatihah, out of mercy on the souls of our righteous martyrs.
The Dean of the College also gave a speech on this occasion, welcoming the distinguished guests, explaining the role of university institutions and their work in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by preparing well-thought-out programs and plans that enable them to solve future challenges related to achieving the goals and integrating them into academic programs and student activities to provide opportunities for researchers to innovate and think creatively. In addition to providing youth energies with the knowledge and skills necessary to face the complex challenges surrounding us, thanks to its extended influence in directing innovation and effectively contributing to shaping policies and directing societies towards sustainable development.
Then, the President of the University of Baghdad, Dr. Bahaa Ibrahim, delivered his speech welcoming the guests, reviewing the most important trends of the University of Baghdad on the importance of scientific research in all fields to achieve sustainable development goals, noting the number of research published in global repositories (24,679), as well as the volume of international research cooperation at our university ( 31%), noting that our college is classified as one of (7) colleges in Iraq according to the British Times classification, stressing all relevant governmental and private bodies and institutions to work together to enhance the role of sports in achieving sustainable development goals.
At the conclusion of his speech, Dr. Bahaa extended his thanks and appreciation to the organizing committees of this conference, wishing everyone success and more progress and giving in service of the scientific process in Iraq.
Then, the Chairman of the Committee of Deans of Faculties of Physical Education, Prof. Dr. Sabah Qasim Khalaf, gave his speech, indicating the importance of sport in society and how to apply it within the goals of sustainable development.
As part of the conference curriculum, a documentary film about the college was shown, in addition to holding a dialogue workshop on health and sustainable development with foreign and Arab professors online, namely (Dr. Nevzat Demirci Turkey, Dr. Rahesh Kumar India, Dr. Abdul Latif bin Ibrahim – Saudi Arabia, and… Dr. Amal Abdullah and Dr. Ahmed Azab from Egypt), as well as the holding of four scientific workshops by our teachers and teachers from corresponding and Arab universities, the first entitled (developments and a new scientific vision on the role of the heart in mental, educational and psychological processes) by (A. Dr. Jabbar Rahima Al-Kaabi), the second is titled (Motor Learning between Theory and Application) by (Dr. Mazen Abdel Hadi), the third is titled (Rehabilitation Methods Using Artificial Intelligence in Preventing and Rehabilitating Injuries) by (Dr. Souad Abdel Hussein), and the fourth is entitled (Sustainability and artificial intelligence technologies and their relationship to physical education and sports sciences) by lecturers from the Arab Republic of Egypt (Dr. Muhammad Assem and Dr. Ahmed Azab),
The participating research was then discussed, and it concluded by presenting the most important recommendations that emerged from the conference, including the necessity of disseminating the results to the corresponding universities and the relevant ministries for the purpose of activating the partnership between other institutions and adopting projects that achieve the goals of the United Nations and providing solutions and initiatives that serve the educational process and the labor market.
At the conclusion of the conference, the Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Fatima Abd Maleh, praised the efforts of everyone, without exception, including teaching staff, male, female and students, to make the conference a success, wishing them success and continued work to serve our college and our mother university.
This conference achieves the sustainable development goals represented by the fourth goal, quality education, and the seventeenth goal: establishing partnerships to achieve the goals.
In a related context, the regular meeting of the Committee of Deans of Colleges of Physical Education and Sports Sciences was held in Iraq, headed by the Dean of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, Prof. Dr. Sabah Qasim Khalaf discussed the necessity of unifying physical education curricula and courses, noting that this meeting achieves one of the sustainable development goals represented by the fourth goal, quality education.
