The Dean of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences for Girls, University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr Fatima Abd Maleh, received delegations from the Women’s Affairs Department at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Adhamiyah Municipality Department, the Municipal Awareness Department, the Sewerage and Water Media and Design Departments in the Baghdad Municipality. The Prevailing Committee for Voluntary Work in the Al-Khadhra Municipality to hold an awareness lecture entitled (Climate Change and Environmental Preservation) and a tree planting campaign.

The lecture topics were presented by the engineer in the Baghdad Water Department, Ms Aseel Aziz, explaining the concept of climate change as a disturbance in the Earth’s climate with an increase in the planet’s temperature and how it changes in natural phenomena represented by distance and proximity to the sea, ocean currents, wind direction, land shape, and distance and proximity to the equator.

She pointed out how to protect the environment from changes by recycling and consuming recyclable items, reducing the use of chemicals that emit harmful radiation, exploiting solar energy in transportation and reducing the use of fuel, switching to using other forms of energy other than fuel products, increasing the planting of trees and green plants to increase oxygen in the atmosphere and pollution and protect the environment, awareness of the culture of consumption and rationalisation of water.

In a related context, the Dean of the College participated with delegations and students in planting a number of green trees and flower seedlings to create a positive, healthy environment that reduces pollution, in addition to increasing the beauty of the college gardens and maintaining their sustainability.

This lecture achieves one of the sustainable development goals represented by the thirteenth goal of climate action and the seventeenth goal of partnerships to achieve the goals.
