The Dean of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences for Girls, University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Fatima Abd Maleh, supervised the master’s thesis entitled (The Effect of Exercises with an Innovative Device to Control the Distance Between the Feet in the Movements of Advancement and Retreat and Developing Skill Performance in the Foil Weapon) for the researcher (Ramah Muhammad Zuwayr). The discussion committee consisted of Prof. Dr. Suhad Qasim Saeed as Chairman, Assist. Prof. Dr. Ishraq Ghaleb Awda as a member, and Assist. Prof. Dr. Bilal Ali Ahmed as an external member from Ibn Sina University for Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

The study aimed to design and manufacture an innovative device to control the distance between the feet during the movements of advancement and retreat in the foil weapon, to identify the differences between the pre- and post-tests for the experimental and control research samples, as well as to identify them in the post-tests in the movements of advancement and retreat and skill performance in the foil weapon.

The results of the study showed that the innovative device had a clear positive effect in controlling the distance between the feet of female fencers, and training using the innovative device led to arousing the desire and excitement to continue training among female fencers in the experimental group, in addition to proving the exercises that were implemented in the experimental and control groups their effectiveness in controlling the distance between the feet and developing skill performance.

The researcher recommended the necessity of using the innovative device to control the distance between the feet in the movements of advancement and retreat among female fencers; the necessity of using the devices because of their psychological effect that contributes to breaking boredom among female players, working on inventing electronic devices to measure the development of skill and physical performance in fencing, and paying attention to motor and skill abilities through the preparation of special training and in different ways to increase excitement and suspense among female fencers.

This discussion achieves one of the goals of sustainable development, represented by the fourth goal of quality education.
