A teacher in the individual games branch in the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences for Girls, University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Ishraq Ghaleb Odeh, gave a qualitative lecture to undergraduate students, entitled (Skillful preparation for duelists).

As Dr. Ishraq explained the concept of skill preparation for fencers, it is all the procedures and skill exercises that are planned by the coach and implemented by the players in the stadium with the aim of reaching the player to accuracy and integrated mastery in the conditions of fights, referring to its stages represented by the stage of motor learning of skills, the stage of developing the efficiency of skillful performance, the stage of continuity with the player until the stage of his retirement from the competition.

She added that among the most important factors influencing the skillful performance are: the functional and anatomical factors of the size of the player, physical and motor characteristics, psychological and mental factors, individual differences, and the availability of various motor experiences.

The instructor in the individual games branch explained the training foundations for preparing the skills for the sport of fencers, the most important of which is giving an idea of ​​the required skill, learning the skill gradually and repeating it until the degree of mastery, providing the equipment and tools required for learning and training, learning the skill using weapons without a competitor and with weapons with a competitor, learning the skill with a positive and experienced competitor training the player on more than one skill in different spatial conditions similar to the competition. The training units contain exercises that improve skillful performance for the purpose of adapting to this performance in the same competition conditions.

The lecture concluded with a set of recommendations, the most important of which is research and investigation to develop the level of skillful performance of the various skills and abilities of the sport of fencing, discovering innovative and modern ways to develop the necessary and required tests for performance, the necessity of linking skill preparation with tactical preparation in one training unit because motor skills form the basis of tactical skills.
