The College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences for Girls / University of Baghdad hosted the discussion of the Master’s thesis entitled (“The Effect of Exercises with Varied Resistances on Developing Certain Biomotor Abilities and Complex Offensive Skills in Basketball for Female Players Under 18 Years Old”), by the researcher (Riam Munther Namous).
The examination committee consisted of Prof. Dr. Liqaa Abdullah Ali from the University of Baghdad as Chairman, Prof. Dr. Sahar Hur Majeed as a member, Prof. Dr. Naseer Mizher Abboud from Al-Iraqia University as an external member, and Prof. Dr. Nada Muhammad Amin as a member and supervisor.
The study aims to prepare exercises using varied resistances for female basketball players under 18 years old, and to identify the effect of these exercises on developing certain biomotor abilities and complex offensive skills among them, through applying the field experiment on a sample of female players from the National Team of the General Directorate of Education in Karkh First for the sports season (2025-2026) in the indoor sports center belonging to the same directorate.
The results showed that exercises using different resistances led to statistically significant improvements between the pre-test and post-test, indicating the effectiveness of the exercises in developing physical abilities such as rapid strength of the arms and legs, transitional speed, and coordination, as well as producing improvements in skill performance such as lay-up shooting and chest pass accuracy after dribbling.
The study recommends the necessity for coaches to focus on using varied resistances to develop physical abilities and complex offensive skills, allocating sufficient time for these activities in training units. It also calls for following scientific principles when designing exercises regarding sequence, workload volume, and rest intervals between sessions. Periodic testing should be conducted to monitor the achieved progress.
This discussion contributes to achieving one of the Sustainable Development Goals, which is Goal 4: Quality Education.
