A doctoral dissertation titled (“The Effect of Cluster Training Using Sliding Discs on Select Biomotor Abilities and the Accuracy of Offensive Skills in Volleyball Players Aged 14–16 Years”) by the researcher (Alia Ali Mahmoud) was defended at the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences for Girls, University of Baghdad.
The examination committee comprised Prof. Dr. Basheer Shaker Hussein (University of Al-Qadisiyah) as External Chair, Prof. Dr. Liza Rustom Yacoub as Member, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Intisar Jumaa Mubarak as Member, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zainab Qahtan Abdul-Muhsin as Member, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alaa Abdul-Rida Hussein as Member, and Prof. Dr. Suhad Qasim Saeed as Member and Supervisor.
The research aimed to design training protocols according to the cluster approach (symmetric and asymmetric) using sliding discs to enhance select biomotor abilities and offensive skill accuracy among volleyball players aged 14–16 years.
The researcher adopted an experimental design utilizing two equivalent groups with pre- and post-testing to suit the nature of the research problem. The study population and sample consisted of 19 volleyball players registered at the National Center for Sports Talent Care under the Ministry of Youth and Sports, aged 14–16 years; 14 players were randomly assigned into two equal groups of 7 players each, representing 100% of the target sample.
The researcher concluded that cluster training using sliding discs—via both symmetric and asymmetric modes—effectively contributed to developing the biomotor abilities of volleyball players. The researcher recommended implementing these specialized training programs to optimize biomotor capacities and advance athletic performance levels within this age category.
This dissertation defense directly supports the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal 4: Quality Education (SDG 4).
