The Master’s thesis entitled (“The Effect of Special Exercises and Electrical Muscle Stimulation on Certain Physical Abilities, Electrical Activity of Working Muscles, and Shooting Accuracy for Wheelchair Basketball Players (High Category)”), presented by the researcher (Eman Abdul-Jabbar Abdul-Karim), was discussed at the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences for Girls / University of Baghdad.

The examination committee consisted of Prof. Dr. Osama Ahmed Hussein from the University of Baghdad as Chairman, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Liqaa Ali Inad as a member, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Waleed Attallah Essa from the University of Diyala as an external member, and Prof. Dr. Nada Abdul-Salam Sabri as a member and supervisor.

The study aimed to prepare special exercises to develop certain physical abilities, electrical activity of working muscles, and shooting accuracy among wheelchair basketball players from the national team (high category) registered in the official federation rosters for the 2025-2026 season; prepare accompanying sessions for the prepared exercises using electrical muscle stimulation for specific muscles, namely (anterior deltoid, biceps brachii, flexor carpi radialis, and triceps brachii); and identify the significance of differences between the pre-test and post-test results of the experimental and control groups in certain physical abilities, electrical activity of working muscles, and shooting accuracy among the research sample.

The results of the study showed that applying physical exercises accompanied by electrical muscle stimulation contributed to achieving noticeable development in explosive power, speed-strength, and transitional speed among wheelchair basketball players. It also led to a clear improvement in the peak electrical signal of the four working muscles (anterior deltoid, biceps brachii, flexor carpi radialis, and triceps brachii) during shooting performance. This development in upper limb muscle strength was associated with increased motor performance stability and movement control, providing higher precision in shooting accuracy. In addition, the results proved the suitability and acceptance of electrical stimulation by players, reflecting its effectiveness as a supporting training method.

The study recommended the necessity of using physical exercises accompanied by electrical muscle stimulation to develop the physical abilities of wheelchair basketball players, emphasizing the use of electromyography to measure trunk muscles and symmetrical muscles to determine strength symmetry between them. It also called for future studies to identify the effect of electrical stimulation on other physical qualities and aerobic capabilities in players, in order to expand the knowledge base regarding the effectiveness of this technique in different training fields.

This discussion falls under Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education to develop training curricula.
