The Quality Assurance and Performance Evaluation Division at the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences for Girls, University of Baghdad, under the patronage of its Dean, Prof. Dr. Fatima Abd Maleh, and the supervision of its official Lect. Dr. Badaa Tariq hosted Colonel Wissam Abdul Karim Al-Wazzan / Department of Relations and Media and Teaching at the College of Education, Al-Mustansiriya University, Prof. Dr. Muntaha Abdul Zahra, to hold a scientific symposium entitled (Combating Rumors through Social Media)

The lecturers explained the concept of rumours as a plural of rumour and a phrase about information, an idea, or news that does not have a reliable source that is promoted, transmitted and broadcast in an oral, written or photographic form through multiple sources, most notably social media and satellite channels, classifying their types into slow creeping rumours, fast, retrospective, exploratory, projection, justification, expectation, fear, hope and hatred, recalling at the same time the factors of their spread represented by the stage of selective perception and the stage of revision with the goal and addition, the final assimilation and dissemination stage.

They also explained how to combat it by emphasising the need to avoid promoting information from unreliable sources on social media and imposing censorship on various content that affects the privacy, security and safety of others.

In conclusion, the Dean of the College awarded the lecturers letters of thanks and appreciation for their efforts in holding awareness seminars to educate university students and urging them not to accept rumours, limit their spread, and report their promoters.

This seminar achieves one of the sustainable development goals represented by the fourth goal, quality education, and the seventeenth goal, establishing partnerships to achieve the goals.
