The College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences for Women at the University of Baghdad was represented in the First Conference of Editorial Boards of Iraqi Scientific Journals, held under the slogan “Advancing Iraqi Journals to Global Horizons.” by the Associate Dean for Scientific and Student Affairs, Prof. Suhad Haseeb; the Editor-in-Chief of Modern Sport Journal, Prof. Abeer Dakhel; and Editorial Board Member, Prof. Huda Shehab.
The conference was held on September 10, 2025, at the University of Technology, under the patronage of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Dr Naim Al-Aboudi, with broad participation from editors and board members of academic journals across Iraqi universities, alongside international experts from renowned institutions such as Elsevier, Clarivate, the Egyptian Knowledge Bank, and ASF.
In his opening remarks, the Minister emphasised the importance of strengthening the presence of Iraqi university journals in international indexing databases and enhancing their standing in global impact and citation indicators. He highlighted that the Ministry has established solid foundations based on quality standards and sound governance in academic publishing over the past three years.
The conference program included specialised sessions on academic content indexing, peer-review mechanisms, and technological advancements in publishing management. It also showcased the Research Management System (RMS) platform as part of the Ministry’s digital transformation strategy.
Discussions further addressed ways to enhance the quality and credibility of national journals to ensure their inclusion in global databases, encourage Iraqi researchers to publish their distinguished studies in these journals, and strengthen their academic presence regionally and internationally.
This participation also reflects the College’s contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4: Quality Education and Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
