The Scientific Affairs Unit at the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences for Women, University of Baghdad, organised a workshop on Specialised Teaching Methods, delivered by the faculty members of the Teaching Methods course.
The workshop was structured into three main themes:

Creative Teaching
Presented by Prof. Huda Abdul-Samee and Assoc. Prof. Maysaa Nadim Ahmed, this session defined creative teaching as an instructional approach employing diverse and innovative strategies to make learning enjoyable and effective. It shifts the student’s role from a passive recipient of information to an active participant in constructing and applying knowledge. The speakers emphasised the importance of creative teaching in fostering students’ creative thinking, increasing motivation to learn, developing problem-solving and critical thinking skills, boosting learners’ self-confidence, and achieving active learning where the student becomes the central focus of the educational process.

Effective Teaching
Delivered by Assoc. Prof. Nadima Badr and Asst. Lect. Zahraa Hazem, this session described effective teaching as a well-organised and structured educational process designed to achieve specific learning objectives. The speakers highlighted its characteristics, including learner-centeredness, variety in methods, achievement of learning goals, continuous assessment, and constructive feedback. They also discussed strategies such as diversifying classroom activities, posing open-ended questions, and integrating technology into the learning process.

Differentiated Instruction
Presented by Prof. Najla Abbas and Prof. Nihad Mohammed, this session explored differentiated instruction as a teaching process tailored to learners with varying abilities within the same classroom. It assumes student diversity regarding home environment, general and athletic culture, prior experiences, and academic requirements. The presenters outlined key steps, including conducting pre-assessment, grouping learners based on shared characteristics, defining learning objectives, selecting instructional materials and activities, organising the learning environment, choosing suitable teaching strategies for each group, assigning relevant learning tasks, and conducting post-assessment to evaluate learning outcomes.
This workshop supports achieving Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education, by promoting innovative and practical approaches to teaching and learning.
