Dr Raghda Fouad Mohammed, Head of the Scholarships and Cultural Relations Unit at the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences for Women, University of Baghdad, along with several of the College’s students, participated in the National Erasmus+ Day Conference. The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research organised the event with the European Union Delegation in Baghdad. It was hosted at the University of Baghdad during September 8–9, 2025.
The conference featured a keynote address by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr Naim Al-Aboudi, who emphasised that cooperation programs with the European Union represent a vital space for advancing higher education and scientific research. He highlighted how these programs allow faculty members to develop their expertise and broaden their research fields, enable students to engage in multicultural learning experiences, and open wide knowledge horizons for researchers. Moreover, they empower administrative staff to acquire modern organisational skills in university management and institutional governance.
The Minister also noted that the Ministry has established specialised departments to follow up on Erasmus+ programs and approved the creation of units in every Iraqi university to serve as effective contact centres. These units aim to transform international partnerships into educational and research projects that enhance the global academic standing of Iraqi universities.
The National Erasmus+ Day also included a scientific presentation by Deputy Minister Dr Haider Abd Dhahad on academic cooperation and internationalisation through Erasmus+, a speech by Mr Adam Jansen, Deputy Head of the EU Delegation in Baghdad, as well as a ceremony honouring several Erasmus+ experts and international academic figures.
