The College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences for Women at the University of Baghdad, under the patronage of its Dean, Prof. Fatima Abd Malih, hosted a delegation from the Ministry of Youth and Sports / Directorate of Studies and Development for Youth Leadership. The workshop was held in cooperation with the University Psychological Counseling Unit and carried the title (The Role of Sports in Achieving Community Peace). Prof. Suaad Al-Sabti presented the session.

The workshop targeted young people from diverse social and cultural backgrounds, with a particular focus on encouraging women’s participation in sports as a means of empowerment.

The workshop aimed to:

  • Promote social coexistence through sports: using sports as a tool that brings together youth from different backgrounds to exchange dialogue and foster understanding.

  • Reduce social gaps through sports activities that help integrate individuals from diverse social and economic groups, thereby strengthening social cohesion.

  • Use sports in conflict resolution: participants were trained to leverage sports activities to resolve disputes and enhance communication, rather than merely compete.

  • Instill social and ethical values: the workshop included educational segments highlighting the values of cooperation, responsibility, and belonging through sports.

  • Encourage positive attitudes: appreciation awards were presented to individuals and teams who demonstrated cooperation and coexistence during the activities, in addition to certificates of participation.

At the end of the workshop, Prof. Suaad presented several key recommendations, emphasizing that sports effectively build trust among youth from different backgrounds and serve as a powerful tool for bridging perspectives and creating a shared positive environment. She also highlighted the importance of strengthening partnerships between universities, youth centers, and civil society organizations to expand sports activities that promote peaceful coexistence.

This workshop reflects a strategic vision that positions sports not only as a recreational or health-related field, but as an effective tool for building peace and social harmony. It underscores how sports can become a platform for dialogue, bringing together youth from diverse backgrounds and reinforcing shared values among individuals.
