A faculty member in the individual games department in the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences for Girls University of Baghdad, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ishraq Ghalib Odeh, participated as a member of the discussion of the master’s thesis titled (The Effect of Aerobic Exercises on PGC-1α) and irisin in some physiological variables for weight loss and the physical component of females at ages (45-50) Years by the student (Nour Rasul Zaki) from the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, University of Al-Qadisiyah, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Falah Hassan Abdul-Allah Al-Khafaji.
The study aimed to develop an aerobic exercise program for weight loss and to identify the levels of the hormone irisin, PGC-1α, and certain physiological and physical variables before and after performing the mentioned exercises among women aged (45-50).
According to the study, it was concluded that regular performance of aerobic exercises leads to an increase in the level of the hormone irisin. This elevation results in an increase in cellular metabolic processes, leading to enhanced energy production. Consequently, this mechanism aids in reducing body fat and eliminating excess weight. Furthermore, the observed increase in metabolic processes influences certain physiological variables associated with the circulatory and respiratory systems. Additionally, the effect of the physical component on the changes that occurred through the loss of fat and its utilization for energy production play a role in reducing body weight. The study recommended the need to study the effect of aerobic exercises on irisin hormone levels, as well as conducting comparative studies on these hormone levels between athletes and non-athletes, as well as between women and men during exercise. Furthermore, it emphasized the importance of conducting a study to determine the effect of specific hormone levels on irisin hormone.
After discussing her thesis, the committee recommended granting the student a Master’s degree in Physical Education. Furthermore, the Dean of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at Al-Qadisiyah University, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Abdul Amir, presented a letter of appreciation and gratitude to our faculty member, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ishraq Ghalib, appreciating her efforts and active contribution in the student’s discussion. They wished her continued success and fulfillment in her work, serving the scientific progress in Iraq.
