A member of the Committee of the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit in the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences for Girls, University of Baghdad, Assistant Professor Dr. Nada Muhammad Amin, held an awareness lecture for undergraduate students entitled (Sexual harassment, its forms and prevention).
Dr. Nada explained the concept of sexual harassment as a group of unwelcome behaviors, and these behaviors may be simple verbal, or serious, such as an attempt to touch the victim for sexual and pornographic purposes, leading to rape, referring to its causes represented by weak faith, the absence of the role of parents, and the failure to measure people by enjoining good, and forbidding evil, mixing between men and women in the workplace, in addition to other reasons that psychologically affect the person of the harasser, such as social isolation, family problems, and others.
She also noted its forms, represented by the examining look of the harasser, staring or looking inappropriately, the harasser’s calls such as whistling, screaming, whispering, or any kind of sexually suggestive sounds, the harasser’s facial expressions that carry sexual intentions, the harasser’s touching of the victim, stalking or tracking, and other comments and gestures. The lecture concluded with providing tips to prevent sexual harassment, including staying away from dangerous areas, avoiding strangers, choosing appropriate clothes, educating children about all matters related to harassment, and having tools that protect against harassment
