The College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences for Girls, University of Baghdad, witnessed the discussion of the master’s thesis entitled (The Effect of Rehabilitation Exercises in the Aquatic Environment (Ai chi) to Restore the Efficiency of the Knee Joint for Some Patients with Osteoarthritis Aged (35-45) years) by the researcher (Narjes Haider Fadhel). The discussion committee consisted of Prof. Dr. Mawaheb Hamid Noman as Chairman, Prof. Dr. Suad Abdul Hussein as Supervisor, Prof. Dr. Walaa Fadhel Ibrahim as an external member from the University of Karbala, and Prof. Dr. Lamia Abdul Sattar as a member.
The study aimed to prepare rehabilitation exercises (Ai chi) inside the water to identify the effect of rehabilitation exercises (Ai chi) in improving muscle strength and the range of motion for patients with knee osteoarthritis aged (35-45) years in addition to identifying the effect of rehabilitation exercises (Ai chi) in reducing the degree of pain for patients with knee osteoarthritis aged (35-45) years, where she referred to (Ai Chi), which are exercises performed in the water environment so that the water reaches the level of the shoulders and is a combination of deep breathing and slow and wide movements of the arms, trunk and legs, integrating mental, physical and spiritual energy to work on strengthening the entire body.
The results of the study showed that the rehabilitation exercises that were prepared in the water environment led to the development of the level of muscle strength of the knee joint and the surrounding ligaments in a good way, in addition to their contribution to improving the level of ranges of motion in the cases of extension and flexion and the angle of the knee joint, as well as their contribution to reducing the degree of pain in the cases of extension and flexion of the knee joint in the experimental group.
The researcher recommended the necessity for the injured to review the specialist doctors when the injury occurs, especially when it is in its first stage, so that it is easy to treat it with rehabilitation exercises to avoid its development to other stages that are difficult to treat naturally, the necessity of the interest of physical therapy centers in developing the experiences of the therapists working in them on how to apply rehabilitation exercises in the water environment and recommend them and the necessity of introducing modern treatment methods and means to rehabilitation centers.
This discussion achieves one of the Sustainable Development Goals, the fourth goal: quality education.
