Under the patronage of the President of the University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Baha Ibrahim Insaf, and the Director of the Student Activities Department, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ali Sadiq Thiyab, the College of Physical Education and Sport Sciences for Women, hosted the University Badminton Championship for female students, under the supervision of the Dean, Prof. Dr. Fatima Abd Maleh.
The opening ceremony was held in the main sports hall and was attended by the Dean, officials from the Student Activities Department, team coaches, players, and supporters. In her opening speech, the Dean emphasized that this championship represents an important step in supporting student activities and enhancing competition among students across various sports.
The tournament featured strong, competitive matches, with participating students demonstrating impressive performance and high levels of skill and preparation. Accredited refereeing committees were assigned to ensure that all matches were conducted according to international badminton regulations.
The championship concluded with the awarding ceremony, where the College of Dentistry won first place, the College of Physical Education and Sport Sciences for Women secured second place, and the College of Engineering came in third. Outstanding players were also honored for their performance throughout the tournament.
This championship supports one of the Sustainable Development Goals—Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals, as the organizing committee seeks to promote a culture of sports among students and encourage active participation in local and international competitions.
