The University Psychological Counseling Unit at the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences for Women, University of Baghdad, hosted a training course entitled (CrossFit Training and Nutrition: Fundamentals of Strength and Health), under the patronage of the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Fatima Abd Malih, and under the supervision of Dr. Hind Salem Tayeh, in cooperation with the Rehabilitation and Employment Unit. Captain Ahmed Raad Fakhri, Iraq’s CrossFit Champion for 2025, presented this lecture.

CrossFit was introduced as a high-intensity training program based on a variety of functional movements that simulate daily activities to improve physical fitness. It includes Olympic weightlifting, cardiovascular exercises, and gymnastics, while promoting overall health, self-discipline, and a sense of belonging through group training.

The instructor highlighted the benefits of CrossFit, including improving fitness and strength, weight loss and fat burning, enhancing body composition, encouraging commitment and mutual support, improving flexibility, balance, and speed, learning diverse skills, and developing the athlete’s physical performance. He also addressed the most common CrossFit training systems, such as WOD (Workout of the Day), AMRAP, EMOM, For Time, and Interval Training.

In addition, several examples of CrossFit exercises were presented, including squats, push-ups, box jumps, Olympic weightlifting, rope exercises, gymnastics movements, and endurance training.

In conclusion, it was emphasized that CrossFit is a comprehensive sport that aims to improve overall health while simultaneously developing strength, endurance, flexibility, balance, and agility. The importance of mastering training fundamentals before progressing to advanced skills was stressed, along with the value of variety in exercise, proper technique, and continuous performance monitoring to understand individual strengths better.

This course contributes to achieving several Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goals 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), 4 (Quality Education), and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
